《突破弱點，致勝關鍵》— Breaking through Weakness, the Critical Step to Excel

113年大學學測(General Scholastic Ability Test, GSAT)於1月20-22日舉行，英文考科於21日結束了。中譯英與英文作文(解答於後)，不出所料和選舉、機器人主題相關。

人類可以訓練機器人學會各種語言，以此推理，人類當然可以訓練人類學會英語。

ChatGPT聊天機器人，經大量句子資料庫的訓練，而學會認得句子單字、語法、句型、語意、文法及其上下文的關係。

人類學英文也是一樣，可以由簡單句This is a book 逐漸擴展(expand)、長大(grow)至複雜的句子。

聊天機器人如何學習英文句子是高深的深度學習資訊科技領域，不是一般人容易理解的。然而人類學習英文句子的組成是有跡可循的。《Reed老師英語》經多年教學，抽絲剝繭歸納出英文句子22個基因段組成(如後圖示)。

本篇以剛出爐的113年學測英文中譯英及英文作文，看看《句子是怎麼長大的》(How an English Sentence Grows)。

同時強調，加強中譯英及英文作文是可以在大學學測致勝的。在上萬人的考生中，英語程度的排行幾已固定，在短時間內不會有太大變動；唯有寫作正因為是大部分學生的弱點，因此，有機會在佔有28%分數中突破，成為可以致勝的關鍵。

Among the challenges faced by teenagers today, which include “First Heartbreak,” “Caring What Others Think,” and “Mood Swings,” the issue of caring about others’ opinions stands out as particularly significant to me. This concern deeply affects my self-esteem and decision-making, leading me to become overly conscious of peer judgments and societal expectations. It’s a burden that often prevents me from expressing myself authentically and making choices that reflect my personal interests and values.

在當今青少年面臨的挑戰中，包括「初戀心碎」、「在乎他人想法」及「情緒波動」，對我來說，特別重要的是在乎他人的看法。此憂慮深深影響我的自尊和決策能力，而過度意識到同儕的評價和社會的期望。此負擔令我無法真實的表達自己及選擇個人的興趣和價值觀。

In this context, a robotic helper with the ability to offer objective, empathetic advice would be invaluable. I envision this robot as a source of unbiased feedback, helping me manage social interactions and personal challenges with others in a clearer, more confident mindset. It should be equipped with advanced emotional intelligence to comprehend and address my issues, offering advice that inspires me to trust my intuition and eliminate the unnecessary influences of others’ opinions. By collaborating with this robot, I intend to strengthen my individuality and develop a healthier attitude to tackle the pressures from people and society

因此，如果能擁有一個可以提供客觀建議、有同理心的機器人助手會很有幫助的。我希望想像中的機器人，可以提供公正的回應，幫助我以更清晰、更自信的心態處理社交互動和個人的挑戰。這機器人還要擁有高等的情感智慧，可以理解我的擔憂並有所回應，鼓勵我信任自己的直覺而不受他人意見的影響。藉由和機器人的合作，希望能增強我的個性，以展現更健全的方式處理來自人們和社會的壓力。

– Breaking through Weakness, the Critical Step to Excel

The University Entrance Examination (General Scholastic Ability Test, GSAT) of the year 2024 was held from January 20 to 22, with the English subject concluding on the 21st. As expected, the Chinese-to-English translation and English composition (answers provided later) were related to themes of elections and robots.

Humans can train robots to learn various languages, and by that logic, humans can certainly train other humans to learn English.

ChatGPT, a chatbot, has learned to recognize words, grammar, sentence patterns, semantics, syntax, and their contextual relationships through training with a large database of sentences.

The process for humans learning English is similar, starting with simple sentences like “This is a book” and gradually expanding and growing into complex sentences.

How chatbots learn English sentences is a profound area of deep learning and information technology, not easily understood by the general public. However, the process of how humans learn the components of English sentences can be traced. “Reed’s English” has, through years of teaching, unraveled and summarized the 22 genetic segments that make up an English sentence (as illustrated later).

This article looks at the recently held year 2024 University Entrance Examination’s Chinese-to-English translation and English composition, exploring “How an English Sentence Grows.”

It also emphasizes that strengthening skills in Chinese-to-English translation and English composition can be crucial to success in the University Entrance Examination. Among the tens of thousands of candidates, the ranking in English proficiency is almost fixed and unlikely to change significantly in a short time. However, since writing is a weak point for most students, there’s an opportunity to make a breakthrough in the 28% of the scoring, thereby becoming a key to excel.

In the short term, by focusing on this weakness – “Breaking through weakness, the critical step to excel.” – and improving in Chinese-to-English translation and English composition, there is a chance to improve by more than 4 grade points in GSAT.
