如果將元宇宙視為一個理論(theory),如圖一之橢圓圖,此理論就是在描述一個橫跨所有數位科技的虛擬空間(the imaginary space )。隨著科技的進展,如5G, AI,橢圓將逐漸擴大,大到可以模擬 — 也許是整個實際宇宙(the real universe),如長方圖。
在橢圓圖與長方圖之間,所有想從事或進入元宇宙的人們,在真實宇宙(the real universe)中建構想像的宇宙(the imaginary universe),然後在想像的宇宙中,思考真實的宇宙需要或補充些什麼。最後,在想像世界和真實世界間一來一往的過程中,彼此成長 (From the real to the imaginary, then from the imaginary to supplement the real, and finally the process of imaginary and real intergrowth. ) ,此不啻為元宇宙如何形成的最佳詮釋(OceanMollu, 2021)。
圖一 Metaverse and universe
元宇宙是人類創造的新科學(Science is a human invention)。此科學所根據的理論,在形成的過程中(如圖一),由於科技知識的進展,參與的人們逐步補充或修正理論,使得這個理論漸漸突破邊界的限制,範圍越來越大,大到從虛擬世界所觀察、收集到的資料(data)足以解釋此理論的合理性且適用於真實世界大部分甚至所有的行為與現象,並存活下來 (The purpose of theory is to interpret data to provide insight into real behavior) (Richard, 1985)。
例如Meta正發展虛擬實境社交平台(VR social platform), Roblox支援user-generated video games等……,逐步補未來想像世界所需的各種尖端科技(cutting-edge technology),最終形成元宇宙。
處於競爭生態的一員,我們要成為狩獵者,而不是獵物 — Predators and prey: A new ecology of competition (James, 1993)。
在想像世界和真實世界間一來一往的過程中,彼此成長,形成元宇宙(OceanMollu, 2021) — The purpose of theory is to interpret data to provide insight into real behavior in social world (Richard, 1985)。
Metaverse不似空中的一座高塔,而是以目前真實網路為基礎,發展未來的虛擬空間(The metaverse is a virtual world that exists on the internet) (Lorne, 2022),橫跨泛娛樂(pan-entertainment)至網路的每一個角落。Metaverse目前仍在發展的初始階段,至發展完全還要一段很長的時間(OceanMollu, 2021)。
